The Wedding Workshop: Zimmerman Inspiration Series

I am inspired by beautiful things and when I get to photograph them it makes me happy.  Jessica Zimmerman feels the same way about all things pretty, thus the idea to create the wedding of our dreams for an installment of the Zimmerman Inspiration Series was born.  I wanted to teach a photography workshop about all things wedding – one that was full of inspirational things to photograph.

We spent months planning and last week, the big day finally came.  We truly could not have had a better day.  We talked lighting, photographing the ceremony, posing, styling details – and everything in between.  It was honestly just the best day.  I found it a tad challenging to narrow down my favorite images, but I managed to narrow it just a bit and they are all included below.

This day would never have been possible without some amazing vendors from around the country and around our beautiful state.  A HUGE thank you goes to the following incredible vendors, seriously from the bottom of my heart I am so grateful for you:

  • Cakes:  Patti Stobaugh of Patti Cakes Bakery
  • Venue:  The Brick Room, Conway
  • Rentals:  Party Time Rentals, Ray and Kristi Imbro
  • Models:  Sydney with SCULP Agency and Allen {the next big thing=)}
  • Floral and Design:  Jessica Zimmerman – of course
  • Gowns:  Sarah Seven AND She Said Yes Bridal
  • Paper Suite:  Abany Bauer of Brown Linen Design
  • Hair and Makeup:  Kakki Jones
  • Video:  Betwixt Magnolias
  • Fashion details:  Groom – Lanvin Tie, JCrew Suit; Bride – Christian Louboutin shoes, Sarah Seven gown

We started the day talking about details and my love for styling paper suites, rings, shoes, etc.  I LOVE styling the things that tell the story of the day.  I truly believe the day is about the moments that happen, but the details set the framework for what that day looks like.

Abany, you really outdid yourself with this custom paper suite.  I just love them so so much.  Paper sets the tone of a wedding and this suite was just such perfection.  We wanted it to be dark because we just don’t see it enough – and the was this was custom dyed just made me s-w-o-o-n.

I worked with Sarah Seven on selecting the most gorgeous gown for Sydney.  They were so kind and helpful in finding the perfect gown.  I really really love a gown that is not true white or stark white, so the blush Lafayette gown was the absolute perfect choice for the day.  How gorgeous and perfect is Sydney?  Allen and Sydney are so precious together – they are not a real couple, but you would never have known.  I actually shot Allen’s senior photos a few years ago and at that time, I told him he needed to model.  He is just a natural, so when I recruited him for this little endeavor, I was so excited when he was willing to spend the day with a ton of cameras in his face.

I wanted to work with the photographers on creating motion in their images, so we had Sydney move a little and were able to really show how truly gorgeous this gown and girl are.  I love it when a vision comes together!

Our color inspiration for the day was plum and all things in between.  We wanted to show that you don’t HAVE to do ALL WHITE floral to have an elegant look.  I love that Jessica and I chose a  palette that we normally wouldn’t be drawn to, but we wanted to do something different to keep things interesting.  I also knew that as wedding photographers, we all shoot A LOT of either blush and white or all white weddings in regards to floral – so I wanted the photographers to have something new to look at.  It’s amazing how just a pop of unexpected color will just brighten your perspective on a photo – and I knew Jessica could make it SO DREAMY… and of course she did.

Sydney just has such a perfect natural look, so Kakki did a natural face with a lip called “sushi kiss” and it was EXACTLY how I envisioned it would be.  Kakki – you killed it on hair and makeup!  Thank you.  This natural, loose hair is EVERYTHING!

How perfect is Allen in his J Crew suit and his Lanvin tie?  Pretty.darn.perfect!

So, I have to say an especially large thank you to Patti Stobaugh.  Her restaurant actually burned down a few weeks ago and in true amazing form – she still created this beautiful masterpiece of a cake for us.  I LOVE the look of this naked cake – but more importantly, I took a large chunk of it home and couldn’t stop eating it.  Seriously, it was the best thing ever.  Patti – you are just too much and I am so so thankful that you did this for us despite the stress of rebuilding your restaurant and dealing with all of those details.  You are truly a rockstar!

Custom place cards are the perfect way to make wedding guests feel at home.  I love that Abany made these beautiful cards to compliment the invitation suite perfectly.

These custom place cards wouldn’t have a home without a perfect dinner table.  Jessica is the master of creating a gorgeous reception area.

Again – aren’t Syd and Allen just dreamy?  Big thanks to them for being so patient with us all day.  There were a ton of photographers posing them and a ton of cameras in their face and they were both perfect all day long.

I have to say a final thank you to all of the wonderful photographers that joined me for the workshop.  It was a huge undertaking and I am honored that you would set aside your day to come and share your time with me.  I hope that you left inspired to try new things and equally inspired with how awesome you are.  You each have such wonderfully unique view points and beautiful things to offer as photographers and it was so incredible to get to know you better.  So, thank you!  I’ll end this post with one of Jessica’s favorite images – I think it is one of mine too!
